Do you know that there are several factors that
affect the weather? If you didn´t, read this text to help you learn. You might
also wonder what instruments are used to measure the weather.
Weather involves all the conditions of the
movement of the air. A factor that affects the weather is the location of the place
and air pressure, because as it warms air expands. The amount of the water
vapor in the air is called humidity. Sometimes the ocean changes the weather
humidity. High humidity can make the air feel wet and sticky. During the day the
Earth’s surface takes heat from the sun and becomes warm quickly. The ocean is
not as warm as it is on land. During the day, cool ocean breezes move toward
the land.
Some instruments used to measure the weather
are the thermometer, rain gauge, anemometer and barometer. The thermometer
measures temperature in degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit. The rain gauge
measures the amount of precipitation that has fallen in an area. The anemometer
calculates the wind speed in kilometers an hour or miles. The barometer
measures air pressure in units called milliards.
An air
mass is a large body of air that has about the same, temperature, air pressure
and moisture throughout. They don’t stay in the place they form .As Earth moves
the air masses move from west to south. As they move they bump into each other
and this is called a front. A front is the name of a clash of warm and cold air
masses and when that happens, it starts to rain.
The water cycle also affects the weather as it
affects how much precipitation occurs and the level of humidity in the air.
So, the factors that affect weather: the water
cycle, the fronts, severe weather, air pressure and air.
